Last Day at the Office

Minor freakout moment for me: "What am I doing? Why am I leaving a perfectly good job!!!! In this economy!?!! This is crazy!" Deep breath... Focus on the goal... "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." Okay, I'm better now. As today was my last day in the office, I finished packing up my desk, whittling down the amount of books I'm keeping and discovering an archive of completed projects from 2009. It hasn't hit home that someone else will be sitting in my cube, looking at my monitor, answering my phone. (Crud, I didn't change the voicemail message on my phone.) What am I doing?

Changes Are Coming -- And Fast

Well kids, I'm starting this blog in an attempt to keep my sanity during our relocation from the New York City suburbs to the Chicago suburbs. With this change comes a bunch of title changes. Most notably, my status. I'm going from "full-time working mom" to "stay at home freelance mom." What does that mean? Smaller paycheck, no commute, more time with the kids (for better or worse). Dave will be sole breadwinner -- no pressure there. Leah is also getting a status change. She'll be a kindergartener in a few weeks -- which further complicates the move. And little Alice goes from a happy day care kid to following Mom around the house begging for attention. She may be getting the raw end of the deal. It's not easy being 3.
