Pinterest: You're Doing It Wrong

Of all the social media, I think Pinterest is the most powerful. If you have a home or a garden or a dream or any hobbies, Pinterest is your friend. But are you doing it wrong?

First, visit and "pin" often so the algorithm learns you and shows you stuff you want. Doing searches and pinning anything that strikes your fancy is a great way to get better content.

Create "catch all" folders. Use these folders for large categories to catch anything that makes your heart sing, gets your attention, looks great, makes you happy, etc. I have a "Home Decor" folder where I drop interiors that are inspiring and pretty. I have one that's about "Books" and a "Eat Me" food folder. Travel, too. These folders are meant to collect those joy-inducing pins.

Then create a specific project folder. When a project or need pops up in my life, I'll create a specific folder such as "Main Bathroom." I'll start in my already-collected "Decor" folders -- I already did the work to find pins that I loved -- and move pins into my NEW specific-project folder.

For example, when I worked on our fireplace, I needed ideas. Tile? Stone? What? So I created a new Pinterest folder. THEN, I went through my Home Decor folder, and moved any images from there, that pertained to my fireplace project. When I found a particular image that really caught my eye, I clicked on the pin and scrolled down to find similar images, that I then added to my Fireplace folder. I also did searches based on some of the words that were associated with images that were close to what I was thinking.

Thus, you have a curated folder for your project. YAY.

And don't think random Pinning is wasted time. As you pin images, your brain files them away, too (if your brain works like mine). So when you have to make a decision on something later on, your brain already has images you LIKE stored away to help steer you.

I like that it feels like a community, especially when you've worked on your Pinterest account and are seeing a wealth of inspiring and beautiful images that kinda match your style, interests and likes. When I get served pins that are so off base I almost get angry, like "Pinterest, I thought you knew me?!" But for the most part, it gets me.

You can follow other Pinterest people, celebs, influencers, etc, but I don't do much of that. You can also share boards with other people -- friends and family. Leah and I share a board for ideas on her gallery wall. I shared my Bathroom Planning board with Alice so she can see where my head is at for her bathroom. It can be a powerful tool for collaboration.

Guys, I guess what I'm saying is, if you're creative or have hobbies or interests, Pinterest is a solution to get your juices flowing. It's inspirational and asperation, and just fills my brain with ideas and pretty things.

My Pinterest is here, if you want to connect or take a peek at my Pins.

Behold! Everard Blue!

Here's the After picture of our master bedroom now that the walls are a dark and moody blue. Maybe the best part is I was at work while the painters were here, so I walked in and found -- as if by magic -- the room no longer minty green but a bold blue. That's pretty awesome. They also painted the trim an eye-popping white, which I just love against this blue. And the angle is a dark beige-y, tan color that I hope goes with the headboard. I spent the evening cleaning and re-hanging the drapes, and moving the furniture back into position. It will be a while before I dare hang anything in here. I'm too in love with the walls to put too many holes in them right now. So, just in case I'm looking for this information later: The walls are "Everard Blue" by Benjamin Moore . And the tray is "Curly Willow" by Behr . Now, does that furniture look too dark against the walls or is it just me? And wouldn't a lighter wood or white look fabulous agains...

France and the Third Baby

Odd fact of the day .... The French government pays for a mother’s tummy tuck after the birth of her third child (you do have to have at least 3 babies to qualify). Found on this blog about raising kids in Southern France. Yes, I'm day-dreaming again. Related posts: All the fancy quotes My love of France runs deep, people

So Long, Hanukkah Part Two

And just as quickly it started (in New Jersey, on the night of Thanksgiving, no less), Hanukkah is over.  Our eight nights were full of fun and squealing! And lighting many candles, of course. We missed one night because we were in a hotel room after spending the whole day driving home from New Jersey -- and I just didn't have the wherewithall to pull out the menorah.  Speaking of menorah, we've replaced our old, wax-filled menorah with this lovely silver beauty given to us by David's mother. It belonged to her mother and sat in the dining room for years. Isn't it pretty?! And, the wax cleans off it much easier, so we're sure to hang on to this one for many Hanukkahs to come. I'm a sucker for traditions.  Here's some photos of the last two nights: Leah Lighting the Candles - in an Eli Manning Jersey, No Less Alice Lighting in a Top She Calls her Genie Shirt David Constructing the Cardboard Pirate Ship The Last BIG Gift?
