Alice at Four

With this monumental 4th birthday -- she's not my baby anymore -- I wanted to document a little about our Alice.

Alice's short hair is mostly blonde and mostly curly. She doesn’t hate to have it brushed, but she prefers to keep it wavy -- especially the front pieces she can see. She loves to polish her nails.

Alice has a pink blanket with satin edging that she strokes to fall asleep. Currently, she’s inexplicably unwilling to fall asleep in her bed. A phase that I should have seen coming, as she’s always been a reluctant fall-asleeper.

Alice says “Lellow,” instead of Yellow. And, if you’re really funny, you’re “kilarious.” A few months ago she was trying to think of a name for her toy and came up with “Cermencho.” Leah swiftly vetoed it.

She’s got crazy core strength, left over from years of doing baby crunches on the changing table. She hated that diaper changing had to be done prone, and tried to sit up each time. We send her to gymnastics on Saturdays and she’s excited about moving her little body and wearing her Alicetard (not to be confused with a “Leahtard” – which is what Leah wears).

She used to only wear dresses but lately, she’s wearing more shorts and skirts. She wants pants that “stick to her” – and therefore be leggings. She had a ton of clothes, most of which are hand-me-downs.

Alice loves movies. Tarzan being her favorite, but Despicable Me and The Incredibles are watched often. She enjoys the story and sharing parts that she liked randomly -- days later, over dinner.

Spaghetti is her favorite food. Bread with butter is a close second. She’s picky. We need to limit snacking. If she eats a large meal and runs around, she’s very likely to get an upset stomach and even more likely to vomit. If we don’t watch her and make her sit after she eats, she’ll vomit once a month. She’s getting very good at it.

We got her a microphone for her birthday because she likes to sing and talk with a magnified voice. And she loves to dance. But don't look or laugh at her. She hates that.

She's a little more aggressive but only to keep up with her big sister. She's smaller than her friends but she's fast.

Overall, Alice is an awesome little girl. Friendly and funny.
