Good Neighbor

We've been living on this block for almost five years, and with the exception of a holiday party four years ago, I've had no reason to get to know my neighbors. Going at the speed of two working parents, there's simply not time to pause and have friendly conversation on the front stoop.

But last week, with my twice-daily walk to elementary school, there's more time to say hello to neighbors out and about. A three-year-old provides endless ice-breakers to say hello, wave to a puppy or comment on the weather. In a way, these neighbors are my new office buddies. A neighborhood walk is sorely undervalued.

Of course, the timing isn't great, as we're gearing up to move away. But, it will be nice while it lasts.
