12 Things to See in Milan From an Italian

Before leaving for Milan, an Italian colleague sent David this amazing list of things to do and see in Milan. There's A LOT, so I thought I'd share it, too.

Tania, the Author Of This List, After Lunch
I trust your wife has already planned your visit to Milan in detail J, however, in case it is of any help, I wanted to share my personal recommendations + few links that contain some recommendations on what to visit in Milan.

See them here

My personal recommendations, considering that you are staying only for a weekend, would go to the following:

1. DUOMO DI MILANO – if weather allows try to get to the top, the view over the city is really nice Image result for duomo di milano

2. GALLERIA VITTORIO EMANUELE – just in the same square, it’s a must to see in town. Starred Italian Chef Cracco recently opened another restaurant/pizzeria here.

3. – If you go ‘till the end of the gallery you see the famous LA SCALA theatre. Try to get in as its beauty doesn’t show at all form the outside.

4. Just nearby piazza DUOMO (you go towards Corso Vittorio Emanuele, walk in till the end of the street, get to a square then turn left – 5 minutes) there’s the famous Fashion district.

5. Getting there you might want to stop at the RINASCENTE MALL, though, for a by far more accessible – but very high quality – shopping. If sales are mainly accessible with the Rinascente card, go to the 4th floor – if I am not mistaken – easily have it done and then shop so you can get discounts. You might want to get to the rooftop and enjoy your meal facing the magnificent DUOMO.

6. From Piazza del DUOMO; you might want to go and see the so called NAVIGLI. I strongly recommend a visit there, as they offer quite of an unexpected view of the city. You simply go towards VIA TORINO, down towards CORSO DI PORTA TICINESE then PIAZZA 24 MAGGIO, then turn right.

7. In your walk you’ll be also seeing the COLONNE DI SAN LORENZO, one of the few Romanic rests we have downtown. It might be also interesting to know that PALAZZO REALE, again in PIAZZA DEL DUOMO, is hosting a Picasso’s exhibition, in case you want to visit it.

8. Clearly THE LAST SUPPER is worth a visit but it might be tough to get tickets.

9. Also, CASTELLO SFORZESCO, at the heart of PARCO SEMPIONE and very close to our restaurant on Sunday, is worth seeing.

10. Also, I recently discovered that the most loved venue by tourists in town (among the less known of course), is the CHIESA DI SAN MAURIZIO (Corso Magenta, 15) in case you also want to see it.

11. Milan’s Chinatown is a very famous Food district in town (with food from all across Italy and the world), it might be also nice visiting it, first because it’s very close to the restaurant where we will be meeting on Sunday (below all details again), and secondly because this weekend the Chinese community is celebrating the Chinese Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year.

12. Nearby, PIAZZA GAE AULENTI with its world famous BOSCO VERTICALE building is an interesting place to visit.

Hope this helps!

Behold! Everard Blue!

Here's the After picture of our master bedroom now that the walls are a dark and moody blue. Maybe the best part is I was at work while the painters were here, so I walked in and found -- as if by magic -- the room no longer minty green but a bold blue. That's pretty awesome. They also painted the trim an eye-popping white, which I just love against this blue. And the angle is a dark beige-y, tan color that I hope goes with the headboard. I spent the evening cleaning and re-hanging the drapes, and moving the furniture back into position. It will be a while before I dare hang anything in here. I'm too in love with the walls to put too many holes in them right now. So, just in case I'm looking for this information later: The walls are "Everard Blue" by Benjamin Moore . And the tray is "Curly Willow" by Behr . Now, does that furniture look too dark against the walls or is it just me? And wouldn't a lighter wood or white look fabulous agains...

France and the Third Baby

Odd fact of the day .... The French government pays for a mother’s tummy tuck after the birth of her third child (you do have to have at least 3 babies to qualify). Found on this blog about raising kids in Southern France. Yes, I'm day-dreaming again. Related posts: All the fancy quotes My love of France runs deep, people

So Long, Hanukkah Part Two

And just as quickly it started (in New Jersey, on the night of Thanksgiving, no less), Hanukkah is over.  Our eight nights were full of fun and squealing! And lighting many candles, of course. We missed one night because we were in a hotel room after spending the whole day driving home from New Jersey -- and I just didn't have the wherewithall to pull out the menorah.  Speaking of menorah, we've replaced our old, wax-filled menorah with this lovely silver beauty given to us by David's mother. It belonged to her mother and sat in the dining room for years. Isn't it pretty?! And, the wax cleans off it much easier, so we're sure to hang on to this one for many Hanukkahs to come. I'm a sucker for traditions.  Here's some photos of the last two nights: Leah Lighting the Candles - in an Eli Manning Jersey, No Less Alice Lighting in a Top She Calls her Genie Shirt David Constructing the Cardboard Pirate Ship The Last BIG Gift?
