Favorite Purchases of 2020

2020 was certainly a shopping year at our house, mostly thanks to being home and having nowhere to go since March. I had way more time than usual to notice the things around me that were in need of replacement and new things I've long thought about but haven't done much about.

Here's my list of favorite purchases of the year:

  1. Match PJ Sets! I've been buying these Dreamy Cotton Pajama Sets from JCrew whenever I got a good coupon code -- I think I now have four, the fifth is a short-set. They are super comfortable, fit great, wash well and make me feel a little more put together at night. A huge glow-up from the mismatched flannel pants and old t-shirts I used to wear to bed.
  2. New Family Room Sofa. We finally replaced our poop brown sectional (I swear it was a lighter color in the showroom) with a light grey u-shaped couch in the family room we can all sit on. It's done wonders to lighten the room and the fabric has proven to be kid and dog-friendly, too. This is the one we got, though I would recommend splurging on the extra cushion fill, as ours is a bit firm.
  3. New Kitchen Table! We also retired our old kitchen table after 14 years of service. I documented the whole saga (including three table returns) in a series of posts here. And it looks like I'm due a final chapter.
  4. Nail Gun & Power Washer. Two tools I had been planning on adding to my arsenal for years, my nail gun was instrumental in all my shiplap-ing plans around the house (more to come). And my power washer got the back and front porches summer-ready!
  5. Hello Linen Sheets. Major upgrade in our bedroom, as we've always just used cotton sheets. This is the set I got on Garnet Hill, one of my long-time favorite online shops, using a major sale code. They're just as lovely as all the reviews say and getting softer each time we wash them. Yes, linen is cool (as in cold) to sleep in.
  6. Best WFH bra! I've been shopping around for the best no underwire, but not sport-bra, bra that I can wear all day long. There's a slew of online brands but this is the one I've LOVED so far: buy it here from Lively. They're affordable, too.
  7. Clean Tushy! I haven't blogged about this yet, but it's one of my favorite quarantine buys ... the Tushy bidet installs on your toilet and it's just, well, wonderful. I won't go into too much detail, but most of the world has bidets and don't get why Americans scoff at them. I get it now. "If you got poop on any other part of your body, you'd wash it off, why relay on just flimsy paper in the bathroom?"
  8.  Home gym stuff. Dave has made a bunch of additions to our home gym which he uses daily (no going to the gym through a pandemic). The treadmill was last year's holiday purchase, and we love it, but I've set up a subscription to iFit and it's my BEST motivation to use the treadmill. (I did a post on it here.)
What were some of your best buys of 2020? I know you've been online shopping!

Behold! Everard Blue!

Here's the After picture of our master bedroom now that the walls are a dark and moody blue. Maybe the best part is I was at work while the painters were here, so I walked in and found -- as if by magic -- the room no longer minty green but a bold blue. That's pretty awesome. They also painted the trim an eye-popping white, which I just love against this blue. And the angle is a dark beige-y, tan color that I hope goes with the headboard. I spent the evening cleaning and re-hanging the drapes, and moving the furniture back into position. It will be a while before I dare hang anything in here. I'm too in love with the walls to put too many holes in them right now. So, just in case I'm looking for this information later: The walls are "Everard Blue" by Benjamin Moore . And the tray is "Curly Willow" by Behr . Now, does that furniture look too dark against the walls or is it just me? And wouldn't a lighter wood or white look fabulous agains...

France and the Third Baby

Odd fact of the day .... The French government pays for a mother’s tummy tuck after the birth of her third child (you do have to have at least 3 babies to qualify). Found on this blog about raising kids in Southern France. Yes, I'm day-dreaming again. Related posts: All the fancy quotes My love of France runs deep, people

So Long, Hanukkah Part Two

And just as quickly it started (in New Jersey, on the night of Thanksgiving, no less), Hanukkah is over.  Our eight nights were full of fun and squealing! And lighting many candles, of course. We missed one night because we were in a hotel room after spending the whole day driving home from New Jersey -- and I just didn't have the wherewithall to pull out the menorah.  Speaking of menorah, we've replaced our old, wax-filled menorah with this lovely silver beauty given to us by David's mother. It belonged to her mother and sat in the dining room for years. Isn't it pretty?! And, the wax cleans off it much easier, so we're sure to hang on to this one for many Hanukkahs to come. I'm a sucker for traditions.  Here's some photos of the last two nights: Leah Lighting the Candles - in an Eli Manning Jersey, No Less Alice Lighting in a Top She Calls her Genie Shirt David Constructing the Cardboard Pirate Ship The Last BIG Gift?
