Is That the Same Garage?!

It's been A LOT of work, but we got the garage gym together and we are SO excited.  Here's the progression of the work done ..   1. We wanted to use this corner of our 2.5 bay garage for the gym, but there wasn't enough headspace for the rig and the floor was slopped. (The entire floor was gross, too.) 2. We hired contractors to take up the ceiling and build a little deck to even out the floor. Rolling weight bars are just unsafe. 3. Then, we painted the whole garage (well almost), and as much as we could before the floor epoxy guys shows up to finish the floor. 4. The floor epoxy was my favorite level-up. The floor was a gross mess with gunk in every corner. It was amazing to walk into the garage without shoes.  5. Then, we pulled together the gym! Lots of light. Room for the rig. A chalkboard to record PR and workouts. And the black mats to protect it all.  It's exactly what we were hoping to end up with. The next thing we need to do is some organization and s...

Let's Use This Garage

The garage at our new house was just not meeting our needs. I'm not sure how else to say it. And it's such an important part of the house to us, especially to be functional. So, we moved it up the priority list of things we wanted to tackle (with help) and made a plan.    First, there's the gym. Dave had a whole CrossFit gym set up in our last garage, which turned out to be wildly useful once the pandemic hit. This new garage is falling short of being used as a gym for two reasons. The first, the ceilings are just a bit too low and, the second, the floors slope (for good reason) and the bar bells roll down toward the door -- which is not safe -- and the rig couldn't be correctly installed.  The solution, we need to even out the floor in the gym space and open up the ceiling (empty attic above) so we can dedicate space to the gym.  Add to that, the floors are super GROSS . I mean, worse than most garage floors. There are piles of crud or sticky stuff in almost every ...

Garage in the Works!

Dave had a vision for the garage. He's in the garage most mornings using the gym space and likely daydreaming a bit of how to better organize the things taking up space. So I reached out to our contractor to see if he was comfortable coming over and building some shelves that we could use to tidy up. I drew out a master plan of how best to organize all the crazy amount of stuff in there. It included installing the four ceiling hoists for our bikes from the ceiling! Our contractor was up for it. He built most of the 9ft shelves at his house and he came for one day to do the install (and swap the items in the powder room). Minimal contact in these weird times. Here it is! See how cool those bikes are hanging from the ceiling! We'll spend the upcoming weekends going through the junk in the foreground, sorting it into piles, and finding containers to store them in ... WITH LABELs. YAY! Final picture of Dave's vision of space and organization coming soon.
