This is 40

Yup. 40. I know. I'm doing just fine with it, actually. You can't stop the flow of time, it's ridiculous to deny the years, but you CAN make the most of your days. Isn't there a poetic saying about that somewhere? Dave threw a SURPRISE birthday party for me on Friday night at my favorite restaurant. It wasn't something I would have done for myself. But I loved it. It was fun and great to chat with friends all night and eat pizza and drink wine. And not have any of the stress of planning it. Perfect. And now I know why Dave thought next weekend for Leah's party made more sense. heh. It's My Party! I love birthdays and the weekend was so fun. And the next year will be just as exciting. Besides, I always like even years better.

A Prince is Born

Image
From PEOPLE.com Love That They're Wearing Blue! It's well-known that I'm a bit of an anglophile -- I have commemorative tea set from Will and Kate's wedding on display in my house, for pete's sake! So, a new royal arrival, (third in line to the throne, no less) is a pretty big deal in my world. I marvel at Kate's ability to be perfect. She looked gorgeous throughout the pregnancy, wore high heels into the last few weeks and, today, looks camera ready less than a day after giving birth. And she had a BOY the first time out! The Queen has got to be thrilled about that. Now that's left is to find out the little Prince's name! My current name guesses are: Philip (for Will's grandfather, obvi), Thomas, Michael or James. Anyway, congrats to the new little family. I wouldn't change places with you, but I'll sure enjoy receiving the commemorative birthday tea cups to add to my collection. UPDATE: They named is George! All hail his Royal...

Dressing Up!

Image
Seeing as how I have a fancy dinner ... at the PALACE OF VERSAILLES!! I better hit the mall and try on some dresses. This is the trouble with living so far from your sisters ... I was in the dressing room with about 15 dresses ... alone! With just my cell phone! So I snapped pictures of some of my favorites, which you'll see here. My objective was to find a dress ... 1. About knee-length. Tea-length is preferred, as this is a black-tie optional event and I don't want to show too much leg. Is IS for Dave's company, after all. 2. Something dazzling -- as I will be in the same building where fashionable Marie Antoinette once lived (granted with a much smaller dress budget). 3. Something I won't look nuts wearing flats with -- because I AM wearing flats. I refuse to be handicapped by uncomfortable heels if I get a chance to explore the royal rooms or the fabled grounds. Gravel in heels? Nothankyou. So my options were pretty good at the Lord & Taylor by m...

Goodies From the Queen

Image
David has a colleague in London who is my supplier of all things Royal Family related. He was just in Dublin, meeting with her, and brought me back these souvenirs from the Queen's Diamond Jubilee -- which I watched and read about all weekend. Sigh. I'll add this to my collection of tea cups from the Wills and Katherine wedding and mug from Charles and Camilla's wedding. Hell, I think I'll now need a shelf to display my Anglophile-goodness on. Yippee! And the cookies in the tin weren't too bad, either.  Queen's Diamond Jubilee
